history brought
back to life
Experience
Casco Viejo, also known as Casco Antiguo, dates back to 1673. Once a walled colonial city where Panama's wealthiest families lived, it was abandonned as the city outgrew its walls and spread out to what is now a bustling capital city. The old neighborhood of Casco Viejo has been slowly brought back to life with massive renovations of most buildings occurring in the last 15 years, with the result of it now has being slowly revitalized into a walkable neighborhood filled with cafés, shops, restaurants, museums and glimpses into many different epochs brought back to life.
As you walk around the Old City, traces of the Old Spanish colonial city remains in its churches and calicanto walls. Art Deco, French Baroque, American-Canal zone are also present in its varied architecture, which is preserved in great part due to its status as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2003.
